The Vikings were an ancient people who began their longboat travels in the late 8th century, raiding surrounding countries east, west and south of them.
The Aztecs lived in Central America at the site of current-day Mexico City. They set up home in the middle of Lake Texcoco, where legend has it, they saw an eagle sitting on a cactus with a rattlesnake in its claws.
They lived in a cloud palace on Mount Olympus, ruling over the ancient Greeks. Those that lived on the mountain came to power when their leader Zeus killed his father.
No doubt the ancient Egyptians were god-fearing citizens. With more than 2000 gods, theirs was the largest and most complicated group of deities anywhere in the ancient world.
