Who’s Getting The Shoppers’ Vote On The eCommerce Markets?

Biggest e-commerce businesses in the US

Thinking of doing your shopping online this Christmas? You’re among friends. People are fast converting to online shopping, preferring to stay away from crowded malls, and shop from the comfort of their homes.

Ecommerce is more developed in the US than anywhere else in the world. 288 million citizens are online and they have the money to spend. While many thought that online shopping would bring about the demise of brick and mortar, these businesses have also adapted and joined the world of e-commerce.

This year, the top ten online stores expect to turn a massive $500 billion (or 63%) of all e-commerce sales in the United States. Not surprisingly 2020 has seen the biggest increase in online shopping since 2008. Around 14.5% of all retail shopping is now carried out online.

As you can see from the infographic, Amazon completely dominates US online shopping. It is also the biggest online e-commerce website in the world.

You probably haven’t even heard of the second largest: Jingdong, or JD.com. The pride of the company is its high tech delivery which includes robots, drones, and artificial intelligence systems. The company is currently working with scientists to develop a drone that can deliver as much as a metric ton. Alibaba is bigger by market capitalization but JD’s revenue was higher last year.
