Throwing Shade: A Guide To Shady Plants

Describes how to grow different types of herbs in low to no sunlight conditions

Do you wish you could have a garden, but have little to no sunlight in your house? I always struggle to keep my outdoor plants alive because my backyard is almost entirely covered with shade. If you’re in the same position, there is a solution to this issue. There are many plants that not only survive but thrive in the shade.

Growing herbs in your garden is a great way to add color to your yard, and eventually some flavor to your food! For beginners, it’s recommended to start with growing herbs, since they’re the hardiest of all plants.

Even though most herbs grow well in sunlight, there are many types that are just as content with little to no sun at all. Some of the herbs that prefer little sunlight are ones you may have heard of, like catnip, chamomile, cilantro, and dill. This is only just the start of a long list of herbs you can grow in partial shade.

There are even some plants that are happy with no direct sun at all. For example, some herbs that grow well with no sun at all are ginger and violets. This makes them the perfect plants for dark bedrooms or bathrooms.
