50 Cognitive Biases You Use Every Day

a list of cognitive biases and how they effect communication

It’s no secret that communication is one of the most important skills we can have as humans. Ask any employer and they’ll tell you that one of the most valued skills in an employee is effective communication. Not only is it valuable in the workplace, but communication is key to having positive and healthy relationships in your everyday life.

Cognitive biases are snap judgments that our brains make almost automatically. These biases started out as serving the purpose of mental short cuts to help us survive back when humans were hunters and gatherers. However, now they serve less of a purpose and can be a major hindrance to our communication with one another. As much as we like to think we don’t hold biases, it’s simply a fact that we face biases nearly every day when we encounter people. The good news is that knowing that we can hold these biases helps us to recognize them in action and make better decisions on how to respond and interact with others.

This infographic is divided into six categories of cognitive biases: memory, social, learning, belief, money, and politics. Check it out to learn more about the types of biases that could be impacting your decision-making
