TSA: Grope & Pillage

The Transportation Security Administration has been around for the last decade and I’ve never read a positive news article about them. It isn’t that I’m avoiding these articles, its that there just aren’t any. Try it yourself: go to Google News and search for TSA. Some of the most recent articles are titled ‘TSA body scanners’ apparent flaw’ and ‘TSA pats down toddler in wheelchair’. Just a few weeks ago the new full body scanners were proved to be practically useless. This isn’t the first time the TSA has missed the boat either…

Back in 2009 the TSA spent $36 million on bomb-detecting puffer machines. The machines proved useless because humidity and dust would make them malfunction. The few machines deployed ‘puffed’ air at passengers for months until they were finally retired to sit in a warehouse.

According to this infographic, seven out of ten weapons get by screeners. After ten years and 60 billion dollars the Transportation Security Administration can only stop 30% of potential threats? This is a disgrace. This organization has failed at its goal and has taken the airline companies down with it. The TSA needs to change their ways to be less intrusive. Imagine if the money thrown away on air-puff bomb detectors and nude body scanners was put toward streamlining the security process, creating a fun, safe and efficient way to board the plane. [Via]
