Make Kondo Proud: Becoming Your Best, Most Organized Self

Organization has always been a key (if boring) life skill, but lately, it’s become strangely trendy. We can probably blame Marie Kondo for that one. However, staying organized is about much more than folding clothes neatly, though that does help. By utilizing your time and brain most efficiently, you can improve your life.

Tidying up your space can be one of the most satisfying tasks to do. Organizing your wardrobe, for example, sometimes feels momentous, but tidying your mental space can be even more important. For example, make sure to write things down, whether on paper or a device. It declutters your mind and prevents you from feeling overwhelmed. Similarly, make schedules, set deadlines, and try breaking goals into small, achievable steps. That way, you’ll be able to see the finish line.

Some advice isn’t easy to hear, but that doesn’t make it less true: do it now. Whatever you’re delaying, just do it now. Procrastinating only increases the stress and the hold that a task has over your brain, which kills your motivation. Even better than doing it now is getting a robot to do it. Automating tasks like bills or recurring payments frees up your brain and lets you focus on what’s important.
