Top Lessons From The Oldest People Ever Recorded

We all hope to live long healthy lives, but very few of us are likely to live as long as the people on today’s infographic. Nevertheless, we can still take nuggets of advice from these supercentenarians to help us live out our best lives.

Some factors that affect longevity such as fitness, diet, and lifestyle are within our control, but unfortunately, there are some factors which are not. One such element is gender. Out of the 100 oldest people ever recorded, only six are male. Sorry guys, it looks like we got the short end of the stick here.

Interestingly, a vast majority of the 100 oldest people live/lived in either the United States or Japan, with 69 of them coming from one of those countries. The next most prolific nation only has five people.

Though Japan is known to have a high life expectancy and the U.S. has a large population in combination with a high-quality lifestyle available to those who can afford it, it’s still unusual to see so many of the world’s oldest people in these countries.

Stress can kill you, literally. According to several of the ten oldest people, it’s important to stay as stress-free as possible. Science backs this up, as stress is proven to harm the body over long periods of time. Jeanne Calment, a French woman who lived to be 122 years old, said, “If you can’t do anything about it, don’t worry about it.”

Surprisingly, none of the top 10 oldest people have/had any crazy diets or health routines. Many of them loved certain foods that they would consume in moderation like chocolate, sushi, and eggs. It looks like you can eat your favorite foods and still maintain a healthy lifestyle: just do it in moderation.
