50 Reasons To Take Yourself Less Seriously

infographic of different quotes about the benefits of play for children

Remember when we’d spend our days running around outside with our closest friends? Once we become adults with 9-to-5 jobs, playing outside feels less appealing — but you should still believe in the power of play.

Today’s infographic is all about taking yourself less seriously. Many of the quotes here address the importance of playtime for children, but as Nobel laureate George Bernard Shaw once said, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.”

Did you know that just playing peek-a-boo with a child can help stimulate their brains, even if they’re too young to walk and talk? And if you want to have an active imagination, you have to make time to get a bit silly and daydream. Even if you weren’t a playful child, you can still become a playful adult and reclaim some of that lost wonder.

What should you do? Go outside and dance in the rain, read a picture book, play with Legos, or even play a game of hopscotch. Only you know what’ll awaken the child within you, and it’s okay to take some time figuring it out. Of course, there are some downsides to being a child again. If you’re more interested in why children misbehave, you can read more here.
