The Return of Vinyl Records

Infographic about the comeback of the vinyl records.

Nobody is disputing that digitisation is the future. However, some industries, like the music industry, worry about losing a bit of their soul in the process. For young generations, it’s hard to even imagine that we used to have hard copies of our music. From vinyl records to CDs, there was a time when you had to have a physical copy of a song so that you could to listen to it.

Today things are vastly different. Most of our music is digital, and the majority of people are not complaining. It’s easier to carry one device containing thousands of songs than it is to carry a dozen of different CDs and a Walkman. It might be comparable to the books vs Kindle debate; there’s something very tangible and real about having holding on to a great record. That nostalgia might be why vinyl records are making a comeback.

Vinyl sales have increased by more than 50% in 2017, but the most exciting thing is that half of record buyers are young adults under 25. When it comes to genres, rock and pop records are by far the biggest sellers. That’s only track number one about vinyl’s comeback, so make sure you check out this infographic if you want the full analysis.
