If You’re Pregnant, Stay Away From These Foods

What you can and can't eat while pregnant

I’ll eat almost anything. Some of my friends are super picky eaters, but I can’t identify with them. Hamburgers, sushi, pizza, pasta…I’m not one to complain. (I’m getting hungry just thinking about food.)

When you’re eating for two, though, things are a little different. Undercooked eggs and meat are a huge no-no, and you should avoid alcohol and raw fish as well. Even if fish is cooked, it’s not automatically okay: Swordfish, king mackerel and shark are all not recommended for pregnant women.

It might be time to give up your Starbucks habit, too. Excessive amounts of caffeine are unsafe for both mom and baby.

You do have a lot to choose from, though! Eat nuts, yogurt, beans and lentils, lean meats, yogurt and avocado.

Almost half of women gain more than the recommended amount of weight during their pregnancies. I’ve never been pregnant, but I’ve heard the cravings get intense, so I can’t blame you if you indulge once in a while. If you gain too much weight, it can lead to difficulties during delivery and make it harder to lose weight after the baby comes.
