Then And Now: Analyzing Childhood Dream Jobs

Analyzing Childhood Dream Jobs Infographic

When I was a kid, I wanted to be an actress and a model. What can I say? I had a lot of faith in myself. My backup plan was to be an astronaut if everything else failed.

As I got older, my childhood dreams became a little bit more realistic. It seems like I’m not alone –– according to this infographic, childhood dreams vary wildly depending on a child’s age.

Kids under three years old want to be ballerinas and musicians, while elementary school students aim to be astronauts or veterinarians. I can’t blame them –– who doesn’t want to spend the day with animals? Adventuring in space also sounds pretty cool.

By the time kids become teenagers, their career goals become a bit more common: For children between 12 and 14 years old, being a doctor, engineer or scientist is the goal.

By the time kids become adults, becoming a teacher becomes the most common career aspiration. In second place is becoming a writer or author.

While this list shares some popular careers, if you’re still searching for your dream job, check out this infographic for some unusual jobs that don’t feel like work.
