Unplugged: A Smartphone Detox

Unplugged A Smartphone Detox

Are you addicted to your smartphone? If I hadn’t recently gone without my smartphone for three days, I probably wouldn’t be asking myself that question. Sadly, I’ve come to realize that I have a smartphone problem. According to this infographic, 66 percent of people said they couldn’t last one day without it. I honestly don’t know how I survived for three.

It was upsetting enough that I wasn’t able to use smartphone applications like Snapchat and Instagram (which I am definitely addicted to). Not being able to call and text people, or even check my emails, was beyond frustrating. I had to borrow phones like I was back in middle school and it was awful.

I find myself getting pretty anxious without my smartphone, even if it’s just for a few hours. What if something goes wrong and I’m left without a way to contact anyone? I think not being connected is a little frightening. Is this a problem that only an extended detox could solve? Possibly, but I am a millennial. I grew up this way. I guess it’s time to admit that I’m a nomophobiac. Are you?
