How Sitting Can Actually Harm Your Productivity

why sitting is unproductive

Do you sit with your computer all day? If so, you might be at greater risk of serious health conditions. Check out today’s infographic to know everything about the dangers of sitting–and standing–for too long.

Did you know that sitting for too long can put you at a greater risk of several serious health conditions? Researchers found that sitting can increase your risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes, tighten your hip flexors, and increase knee and back pain. In general, prolonged sitting has been associated with increased mortality in men and women.

Because of this, standing desks came to be the miracle solution for our posture woes, but are they any better? Well…not so much. A professor of medicine from the University of California stated that in fact there wasn’t actual proof of the benefits of standing desks for improving our cardiovascular health. Moreso, standing workdays have also been associated with a greater risk for varicose veins, poor circulation, and even heart failure.

Of course, in an ideal world, you could alternate between sitting and standing, but this doesn’t replace exercise.

So, if neither sitting nor standing all day are great for our health, what should we do? The experts tend to agree on this one: taking frequent breaks to walk and stretch our muscles is the way to go.
