How To Become A Human Lie Detector

How To Detect A Lie

The truth isn’t always easy to come by. Sometimes people willingly tell it, and sometimes they blatantly lie. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to tell when the person across from you is being dishonest? Luckily, there are some small cues that may give you a peek into the truth.

The majority of our communication is conducted by non-verbal components…97% of it to be exact. This includes body language and tone of voice. These two markers are pivotal when it comes to figuring out if you’re being lied to.

When you think someone may be telling a fib, instinctively you tell them to look you in the eye. Natural visual contact is often indicative of sincerity. If it seems forced, however, it may be telling that the person talking to you may not have your best interests at heart.

Hand movements can also give clues as to whether you’re getting honest answers. If the person talking is deliberately putting their hand close to their mouth, it can be interpreted as them trying to cover their lies.

Lying is a complex process and a lot of people do it. So next time you think you’re getting the runaround, skip the text messages and communicate face-to-face. This way, you can get the other 97% of the full story.
