Which Sports Have The Highest Fatality Rates?

the chances of you dying while completing various activities

Life expectancy around the world has come a long way in the last century due to modern medicine and other advancements. Even so, we aren’t invincible, and we’ll all die at some point.

How will you go?  To start with the obvious causes, being obese or a smoker significantly increases one’s risk of mortality, with half of lifelong smokers not making it to 70 years old.  If you want to live a long, happy life, you’re best off not smoking, following a healthy diet and exercising regularly.

Though being active is good, certain activities are safer than others. For example, you have a 1 in 2,200 chance of dying while boxing, and a 1 in 50,000 chance of dying while playing football. Skydiving is thought of as dangerous but you only have a 1 in 101,083 chance of dying. And if you’re trying to stay fit, you’re better off going with swimming or running, which each only have a 1 in 1,000,000 chance of you ending up dead.  Whatever you do, don’t go base jumping, which has a mortality rate of 1 in 60.

Now that you know which sports are safest, you can start planning your next adventure. But you need to make sure you’re digitally safe as well. To learn more about how to protect yourself, take a look at our infographic here.
