The Definitive Guide To Hygiene Habits Around The World

Showering Habits Around The World

Most people can’t go a day or two without a shower. But did you know that in some countries, it’s common to shower more than twice a day? Your hygiene habits have a lot to do with your country of origin.

According to Kantar Worldpanel, Brazil takes the cake when it comes to overall showering. The average Brazilian averages 14 showers per week, or around two showers a day. This is nearly double the rate of every other country in the survey. For the rest of the world, the average number of showers per week is five.

Ninety-nine percent of Brazilians shower each week, compared to only 90 percent of Americans. Great Britain has the lowest rate of showering per week, at 83 percent. However, the English do love their baths: they have the most baths out of every country, with 32 percent of people bathing each week. Germany comes at a far second, at just 20 percent.

From 2013 to 2015, the number of weekly showers in Brazil declined from 16 to 14. The infographic cites environmental influences as the cause. Still, Brazilians take the longest showers, closely followed by the U.S., Great Britain, and Germany.

In every country but China and Brazil, showering is generally done in the morning. In China, only 3 percent of the showers occur in the morning, and only 5 percent of baths take place in the morning. In comparison, 57 percent of the showers happen at night, and night bathing is a habit for 53 percent of people in China. Soaking in a bathtub is generally only done worldwide.

Finally, every country except Brazil favors liquid body wash over bar soap. Americans are most divided, with 42 percent preferring bar soap, and 42 percent preferring liquid. How do your habits compare with the rest of the world?
