Why Do Certain Songs Go Viral? Find Out Here

Viral Music

I’m sure you’ve seen that viral video of the professor dad being interrupted during his BBC interview. (If not, have you been hiding under a rock?) It turns out that viral videos can be quite profitable if you play your cards right.

Remember Gangnam Style? It didn’t seem like much more than an annoyingly catchy dance and ditty, but it earned roughly $12 million from YouTube streams alone. Stars like Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Adele are making millions of dollars simply from fans watching and sharing their content.

So how do you make music that will go viral? There’s not a scientific formula, but a song that’s high-quality and provokes some sort of emotional response has a higher chance of resonating with people. Being creative and relatable is also something that makes artists stick out.

So once you have a song ready, what will it take to film an awesome music video? According to this infographic, filming one viral hit took 85 takes, three months of planning and destroying ten televisions. That’s dedication.

While I’ve got you here, you have to check out this infographic from my alma mater that explains the psychology of music and how it affects the brain.
