The History of Daft Punk

History of Daft Punk Infographic

They’ve come too far to give up who they are, but how did they get here?

Being born French helps. From Eiffel 65 (the blue-da-ba-die people) to Air to Pheonix, there’s something special about French electronica, but that’s a tangent for another time.

Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manual de Monem-Christo, the pair that we came to know in gold and silver robot suits, were first together in a band called Darlin’ with some other folks. It would seem that the name “Daft Punk” was taken from a (mostly negative) review of that band, which you can read here, if you so please.

For someone who was as young as I in 1995, the year they really took off, Daft Punk seems like a timeless fixure of the musical scene, but looking at their timeline laid out like this makes me realize that they are a younger band than I subconciously imagined. I love Daft Punk, and I think the best may be yet to come.
