Are We Heading For A Diabetes Apocalypse

Diabetes affects over 3 million people in the UK, with an estimated 600,000 more undiagnosed. Although 90% of people who have diabetes suffer from type 2, both types are important to fight against. Type 1 and Type 2 are the main types of diabetes that can occur. Of the two, Type 2 is by far the most common. Though both types occur when the blood sugar level of an individual is too high, there is a differentiation in type which is due to the different causes of this problem.

Type 1 diabetes is diagnosed if the body is entirely unable to produce insulin at all. Type 2 sufferers are able to produce insulin but this insulin is either not responded to properly by the body or it is not produced in sufficient amounts. Insulin is essential in regulating blood sugar levels.

Diabetes is a costly disease on our society and physically taxing on the victim. Being active and eating healthy every day can reduce your diabetes risk by 50%.
