After A Flood Infographic

Many states, especially Texas and Oklahoma, have experienced continuous heavy rain and severe weather for the past couple of weeks. This Memorial weekend has left many areas with above-average monthly rainfall causing flash floods, destruction, power outages, and dangerous and life-threatening situations. As the weekend storms have seemed to pass, people are now having to come to terms with the damages caused from the floods, winds, and rain.

The USDA Food Safety and Inspection service twitter posted this infographic with some helpful tips on how to minimize food loss and risk of illness. They strongly suggest that once power is restored, it is imperative to check the temperature of your refrigerator and freezer. Depending on the time period that the power was out, there are certain foods, like milk and eggs, that you should be thrown away. Peanut butter, hard cheeses, and several other food items can be kept as long as it did not touch the storm water. If you still are questioning the safety of certain foods, “when in doubt, throw it out!”
