Get Better Sleep

Are you interested in a sure-fire solution for getting up early? Get a rabbit. But seriously, my pet rabbit wakes me up every morning before 8 a.m. All she wants to do is wake up and make the most noise possible. Half the time, I just give her a treat and try to go back to sleep while she’s eating it. I’m a horrible pet mom.

Although it’s a pain in the butt, I am kind of grateful that my pet is forcing me to wake up earlier. I am so much more productive when I wake up early. Sometimes it sucks though, because I still can’t fall asleep before midnight most nights. I’ve always considered myself a night owl, and this infographic implies that night owl tendencies are related to depression. Becoming a morning person is just sounding better and better!

OK, but really, there are a lot of other things you can do to become a morning person besides adopting an annoying morning pet. To get the most out of your sleep, start by exercising in the mornings. This sounds a little counter-productive to me because exercise wears me out, but according to the infographic, when you exercise at 7 a.m., you can go to sleep easier at night. Then there are all the standard suggestions such as staying away from lit screens, caffeine and other drinks, certain foods, alcohol, and cigarettes. Although I’m kind of bummed that taking naps isn’t recommended for helping you get a good night’s sleep, I am intrigued that different alarm apps can help. I’ve tried both the smart alarm and the math alarm, and both are pretty darn good at getting you out of bed.

Give a few of these pointers a try if you’re in the mood for a better night’s sleep, and soon you’ll be waking up like you’ve got a pet rabbit alarm clock.
