Facts About The Port Southampton

Raise your hand if you want to take a cruise… Okay, I’m seeing almost every hand up. You, in the back. You don’t deserve to go on a cruise. Get out of here. You’ve failed today’s lesson. As for the rest of you, I’m taking the class on a wonderful field trip through the Port Southampton today! But first, let’s review a couple of things.

Each year, 1.5 million passengers visit the port of Southampton, which is more people than the population of Birmingham. Who can tell me where Birmingham is? You, Carrot-top. Where is Birmingham?… Incorrect, it is not in the United Kingdom, it’s in Ireland… Just kidding! It was purely a joke. I know my cities; I just wanted to see if you did. Let’s move on.

Did you know, Southampton Docks provide around 25,000 local jobs? Pretty impressive, right? Did you also know that our local school district has been laying off great teachers just so we can add another gym to the already existing three gym set up we have? And did you also know that the principal is an arrogant, self-consumed dictator who only cares about himself and no one else, ever? Again, just kidding. I love my job. I like working for that guy… Okay, one more interesting fact before we go.

The largest ship to use the port is the Royal Caribbean’s Independence Of The Seas, which has a capacity of 5,700 passengers. Can anyone tell me how many people all three of our gyms, combined, can hold? No? About 4,000. There are about 3,200 people living in this district. So, obviously, we need a new gym. Am I right!? Or am I right!? Forget it. Just take a look at this infographic I’ve printed out. [Cruise1st]
