Guide to Understanding the Introverted

Most days I wish that I could live in a giant hamster ball. I wouldn’t have to worry about the weather, I could act as if the people I was not interested in talking to could not be heard through its thick plastic, and I would be protected from all outside forces. But couldn’t there be a back door to it or like a hatch? One that opens with the right number of rhythmic taps on the hard plastic?

Being an introvert doesn’t mean you are incapable of being a socially acceptable butterfly at parties, it just means you would rather still be in your cocoon than out and about fluttering your wings. But you do it anyway. Then you recharge with books, quotes, music, and good lighting.

What I liked about this infographic is that it highlights the same yearning for companionship that is found within extroverts, within introverts. Extroverts tend to want to share moments with people in grandiose ways, while introverts prefer to connect using subtleties, like an all-knowing glance. This doesn’t make their connections with people–once they have gained their trust–any less indulgent, open, or adventurous; it just takes them a while longer to get there. [via]
